Tarnished Hardware

Question from Sammy -----

Dear Shell,

I have some older, nice quality gold colored hinges and door handles that are more than 60 years old. They look like brass but I do not believe they are. I would like to keep them for their look. They are tarnished and do not have that shiny polished gold look. Are there any chemicals or methods to clean up/restore these old door hinges and handles?

Dear Sammy,

If the hardware is more than 60 years old there is a good chance it is solid brass. Remove all the hardware pieces from the doors and using a damp cloth (such as Denim) clean them with a product called Cobra. Allow to dry and then buff with a soft flannel cloth.

It's Just That Easy!
