Get Rid of Septic Tank OdorsDecember 2nd 2008
Q. The septic tank at our cabin is 10 years old. We had it pumped one year ago and everything seemed to be working fine. A few weeks ago we began to notice a gassy odour in the kitchen and laundry areas of the house. We again had the septic tank cleaned and were told the system looked fine. We have checked the field and the ground seems very firm. Since having the tank cleaned we have continued to notice the same smell. We are not sure what to do next. Could you recommend a product or point us in the direction of someone who might be able to help us solve this problem?
A. You may be required to run enough water to fill the tank compartments with water in order to have a proper bacteria and enzyme action taking place as well as a good flow of sewage to the septic field. Consider using Acti-Zyme which is a product designed for septic systems composed primarily of enzymes and cultured seed bacteria. The increased bacterial action keeps tanks and lines operating efficiently. Acti-Zyme is available through Shell Busey's Home Services Referral Office by calling 604-542-2236 or toll free 1-888-266-8806.
