Wood Window Frames Paint Peeling - November 9th 2005
Q: The wood framing on my 15 year old windows has become very porous. I am painting them every year with acrylic paint but this does not help much. The paint is peeling off especially on south side. Should I use oil paint or there is another way to protect the window frames.
A: Remove all the loose paint by scraping or sanding. Allow the area to dry thoroughly before priming. You may want to use a hair dryer to speed up the drying, as the wood should have no more than 5 - 7% moisture content. Prime with Alkyd (oil) exterior primer and then finish with an exterior acrylic latex semi-gloss paint such as Cloverdale Ecologic Architectural paint.
It's just that easy.
