Repairing a Hole in the Foundation - July 11th 2002

Question from Mark in Calgary, Alberta -----

Dear Shell,

ATCO Gas is doing a lot of inside to outside gas meter relocates where we have to dig up the underground service entry and plug off and seal a 3/4 to 1 1/4 inch hole in the foundation. What is the best method and product to effectively seal this hole and to ensure leakage into the home will not occur?

Thanks,

Mark

Dear Mark,

1. Dig out and expose the hole that is in the foundation.

2. Using my Shell Busey’s Home Cleaning Formula, clean the foundation wall well and rinse with clear water.

3. Force a poly foam dowel into the hole leaving approximately 1” and fill the rest of the hole with hydraulic cement.

4. Spray the wall with an asphalt primer sealer.

5. Apply a peel and stick rubber membrane over the area, bridging the hole by at least 6” from the center.

Note: You can use products such as Bakor’s Blue Skin available at Rona Revy.

It’s Just That Easy.
