Nail Polish Spilled On Linoleum

Q:  We have a linoleum floor in our bathroom that is in good condition – at least, it was until my daughter spilled nail polish on it.  I have tried to clean it, but with no success.  Unfortunately, we do not have any leftover pieces to replace the area.  Any suggestions?

A:  I do not have a magic cure.  Nail polish is plastic-based, allowing it to penetrate into the vinyl floor.  Sorry, the only thing you can do is apply new vinyl over the damaged floor.  If the original vinyl has an embossed pattern, you will need to use a floor leveller before placing the new vinyl over top.  Or, cover the damaged section with an area rug.
