Cleaning and painting stucco - March 26th 2000

Question from: Todd

Dear Shell,

I have a house in Edmonton that is about 38 years old and has a stucco finish (the type with glass chips/pieces in it). I was just wondering if it was possible to clean and paint the stucco. Thought about vinyl siding but itís not in the budget right now.

Thanks, Todd

Dear Todd,

Using a flat concrete finishing trowel, scrape as much loose stone off the face as possible. Purchase my Shell Busey Home Cleaning Formula and mix up the heavy duty mix; 4 lids powder to 3 gallons warm water. Dampen the surface with garden hose and using a low pressure sprayer spray the mixture on starting at the bottom of the wall. Allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes, scrub with a patio broom and rinse with hose. You start at the bottom so that you are always rinsing off over a clean surface while still damp. (Dampen lower area again if necessary) Apply an Elastomeric coating i.e.: Cloverdale Paint's Towerthon Elastomeric Coating. Good luck with your project.

Itís just that easy.
