Avoid Walking On Roof Tiles

Q: I want to paint the outside of my house and I would like to know if I can walk on the roof. The house is 13 years old and the roof is red clay tiles. Please let me know if the tiles will break or if they can withstand my weight of 235 lbs.

A: Clay and concrete tile roofs should not be walked on unless you know exactly where to walk. Here's a tip for you. Join plywood sheets together and lay on top of the roof so you can distribute your weight over a much larger area, protecting and not damaging the roof tiles. The plywood will also protect against paint spills on the tiles. Secure the plywood to a sound solid anchor point. Always be very safety conscious.
