Removing grease from wood
December 11, 2000
Question from: Nino

Dear Shell,
I have a question that does not deal with the "house" but is equally as important. I have a 1927 Chevy that has a maple wooden steering wheel. When I was sanding and cleaning it up, I inadvertently got some of the old black grease on the wood. How can I get these 2 spots off without bleaching the wood too much? I have not put a finish on the steering wheel yet. We enjoy your program.
Thanks, Nino
Dear Nino,
Using my Shell Busey Home Cleaning formula mix 1 lid full to 1 pint/500ml of hot water and mix well. Apply with an old toothbrush; brush and blot with a damp white towel. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all the stain. Then dry with a hair dryer.
