Stucco applications on a new home
August 14, 2000
Question from: Terry
Macklin, SK
Dear Shell,
We are in the process of building a new home. One of the stucco contractors I have spoken with has told me that I only require two coats, a scratch coat about half an inch thick and a finish coat about an eighth of an inch thick. Other references I've read say three coats, scratch, brown and finish. What's the scoop and are two coats acceptable?
Thanks, Terry
Dear Terry,
Depending on who is applying your stucco old school or new school. Today using high grade acrylic stucco finishes you will have a scratch coat and a finish coat of acrylic stucco. My choice would be acrylic stucco with a rain screen tarpaper enclosure made by Hal Industries.
