When to Have Air Ducts Cleaned
September 14, 2009
Most of us are well aware that our heating systems should be inspected annually, hopefully before fall or winter. But making sure the furnace is up to snuff is not all one should do. Getting your home's air ducts are cleaned is also a crucial step in ensuring ideal air quality over the winter.
If you haven't had your home's air ducts cleaned by a certified professional in the past five years or so, or if you have a dusty or unpleasant odor when your furnace comes on, it is advisable to consider getting your ducts cleaned by a professional.
The most effective way to clean air ducts and ventilation systems is having the heating contractor to place the system under negative pressure, through the use of a specialized, powerful vacuum.
Be sure to allot three to four hours of time for the duct cleaners to do the job. Mention any other items that could require cleaning as well, such as your air conditioner coil, or dryer vent. Now that the ducts have been cleaned, maintaining cleaner indoor air can be attained by using full-time air purification equipment Such as an HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator).
